I’ve decided to kick this idea onto the Blog, it’s early days and ready for some outside ideas/critique.  Sometimes you need to push an idea out into the wilds to see what it becomes.  I’ll ask some of my <ingratiation>wonderful and kind friends </ingratiation> and any other kind spirited people to comment and make suggestions.
The idea approximately:

  • To incubate an ethical FOSS operations company
    • Ethical
      • Committed to educating the client base, with knowledge transfer
      • Good documentation on all work so that the client is empowered
      • Contribute to FOSS
      • Open published test cases on development and bug cases
    • FOSS orientated
      • because my company uses it a lot
      • and I like the spirit of FOSS
      • I think that this would help FOSS to be adopted more within small companies without IT specialists
    • Operations
      • My company would buy its services
      • Various other friendly companies have said that they would buy its services
      • Good operations makes for a good user/customer service

So I’m looking around for some people who would like to do a startup, and hopefully would regard this project as a “good thing”, as well as earning crust/huge fortune to retire in luxury!

My company (Digital Mail Limited) would provide all the incubation facilities, including a distribution channel and team, so the start up team would be able to focus on building the business and getting on with things.

How the team will grow:

  1. A technical person who will do some of the initial creation, they will like the idea of doing something a bit disruptive!
  2. A commercial/consulting type person, who will do some of the initial consulting

Then later on when we have established some product and revenue, the company will grow

  • More technical and consulting
  • then when it gets closer to a critical mass, it will become more independent from the incubation

I would be interested in hearing from people with:

  • Interest in joining the startup
  • Ideas on where I should spread the word
  • Similar ideas and beliefs on how such a company could help more companies use FOSS

I’m posting this interest on:
